Cheer Parents 101

We are so excited about your interest in our All-Star Cheerleading Program where we believe in Building Kids Before Pyramids™.

In our 10th year in Denton County and 20th year in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Cross Timbers Gym continues its mission of training athletes for the future in order to excel both physical and spiritually. "While physical training has value in some things," we believe "spiritual training has value in all things, for it promises rewards and benefits both in this life and the future life." (I Timothy 4:8 "Training for the Future.")

Over the years, competition cheerleading has become one of the most difficult and demanding sports there is. This is a team sport that demands athletes to ALWAYS put their team before self and requires hard work, dedication, determination, sweat and even some tears. We credit Cross Timbers Cheer’s success to the cooperative efforts of our parents, coaches, cheerleaders and without a doubt, God’s guiding hand.

We want you to understand the commitment your family has to be willing to make in order to be a part of our program. Similar to “Select” basketball, softball, etc., this is the equivalent of a “Select” sport and thus should be treated as such in your child’s schedule. We do understand that kids like to participate in multiple sports; however, we require all-star cheer to be their first priority.

Many good programs, offered with the best of intentions, center around making sure that kids are comfortable and feeling good about themselves in order to have a good self-concept. However, we have discovered that self-confidence is achieved through struggle and achievement, not through someone telling you that you are number one. Self-confidence is not developed when kids are robbed of the opportunity to discover that they can indeed solve their own problems with caring adult guidance. Our Love & Logic approach to training provides loving support from coaches while at the same time expecting kids to be respectful and responsible. As strange as this may sound, winning is not our ultimate goal. Encouraging athletes and helping them reach their full potential through the use of Love & Logic coaching principals, while making sure they have a blast, is our ultimate goal! The winning takes care of itself.

This year we will offer competitive cheer squads ranging from ages 5 years through High School and a non-competitive Show Team ages 3-6.  We thank you for your interest in becoming a part of our program. See you at the clinic in April!

At Cross Timbers Cheer, you will attend clinics and then go through try-outs to be placed on a particular squad.  We are all inclusive and try very hard to place all those who want to participate in our all-star program.  There are NO pre-defined teams and competitive divisions will not be decided until the day of tryouts and we could possibly move athletes around as late as the summer.  This is because we never know how many cheerleaders will be trying out, or their skill level at the start of our competitive season.  We are going to form the best possible teams based on the talent we see, not on current team rosters.  We reserve the right to move athletes around during the season in order to be the most competitive and successful at our competitions.

If you miss the clinics and try-out date, you can schedule a private tryout.  ($65 try-out fee will apply)
